Written quote the same day

Tell us the rooms, the stairs and the parking, and the flat number comes back in writing.

Flat rate, nothing added later

Blankets, shrink wrap and tape are in the number. Nothing is re-priced once the truck is loaded.

Packing, full or partial

Dish barrels for kitchens, wardrobe cartons for closets, crates for glass and stone tops.

One crew lead, start to finish

The same person who surveys your home runs the load-out and the walkthrough at the end.

Local moves across DC and the DMV, run by our own uniformed crew on one flat price you sign before we load — no hourly meter ticking while someone hunts for parking.

Two movers or three?

A studio or one-bed in an elevator building moves cleanly with two. Add a basement, a house, or a walk-up where everything rides down a narrow stairwell and we send a third pair of hands so the day stays on schedule.

Crew Per hour Best for
2 movers + truck $155 Studios, 1-beds, elevator buildings
3 movers + truck $215 Walk-ups, houses, tight prewar stairwells

What a DC move usually costs

The flat prices we quote most often. Blankets, dollies and shrink-wrap are already inside them, and a Saturday costs the same as a Tuesday.

The job Written flat rate
Studio, elevator building $430–$590
1-bed walk-up $620–$860
2-bed prewar, no elevator $1,050–$1,440
3-bed house $1,510–$2,050

What the Flat Rate Already Covers

Each line below is part of every job as standard — none of it shows up as an extra charge when the final bill arrives.

  • Written binding figure, signed at your door, before a single box moves
  • Two-mover and three-mover crews, sized to the job and quoted as one flat total
  • Pads, hand trucks, and stretch-wrap that never show up as extra charges
  • A crew fluent in century-old stairwells and DC parking rules
  • Permit or shuttle sorted ahead of time wherever the block won't fit a big truck
  • The uniformed team you meet at pickup is the team waiting at drop-off
  • Optional coverage that lifts released value to the full declared value of the load
  • Nights and weekends priced no higher than any weekday slot

“Danny and his crew packed our whole kitchen — dishes, glassware, the works — the evening before the move. Everything arrived without a chip. If you are on the fence about the packing service, get it.”

“Long haul from DC to Boston and it could not have gone smoother. Malik gave us the sailing date and the ETA up front, showed up when he said, and the flat number never moved. One crew, both ends.”

Common Questions

Are you a moving company?
Yes — Three Brothers Moving is a fully licensed and insured Washington, DC moving company running our own trucks and uniformed crew, with US DOT and MC authority for interstate work.
There's nowhere to park a truck on my block — how do you handle that?
Grace sorts it before move day. On tight Washington and Petworth streets we line up a DDOT temporary no-parking permit or stage a smaller shuttle to ferry loads to the truck. Kevin also times the arrival around rush-hour so the crew isn't idling while a spot opens up.
My building is prewar with a narrow staircase and no elevator — will that raise the price?
No, the stairs are already inside the flat figure. When we scope the job we count the flights and measure the landings, so a five-story walk-up in Shaw is priced before we arrive. The staircase never becomes a move-day surprise.
Who shows up at my door — your own people or a crew hired that morning?
Our own W-2 movers, in Three Brothers uniforms. I started this on one truck in 2013 and Kevin runs the board now, so the names on your job sheet are exactly who reaches your Washington address. We do not use day-labor or last-minute fill-ins, ever.
How far ahead should I book a DC move?
A week usually holds a good slot. Month-end and the first of the month go fastest, and summer stays packed, so once your date is firm, lock it with Grace two to three weeks out to secure the crew size you're after.
Which parts of DC do your trucks cover?
All eight wards and the neighborhoods between. Our trucks run daily through Capitol Hill, Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, Petworth, Navy Yard, Shaw, Anacostia, and Brookland — Kevin keeps a board that spans all of them out of Washington.
How it actually goes

See How We Work

  1. 1

Free quote — about 10 minutes

We handle: We ask room count, stairs or elevator, and where the truck can legally park, then send a flat written price.

What helps most: Have your building’s COI rules and elevator hours handy — it makes the number exact instead of a guess.

  2. 2

We lock the date, permits and elevator

We handle: We reserve the freight elevator and pull a DDOT temporary no-parking permit so the truck sits at your door, not three blocks away.

What helps most: Confirm your move-out and move-in windows with both buildings, then tell us the tighter one.

  3. 3

    Pack & protect

We handle: Blanket-wrap on every piece of furniture, shrink-wrap on upholstery, beds and table legs disassembled and bagged with their hardware.

What helps most: Label boxes by the room they go to, and keep documents, keys and small valuables with you, not on the truck.

  4. 4

Load, drive, place & walk through

We handle: The same crew that loads is the crew that unloads — furniture goes where you point, beds get rebuilt, packing debris leaves with us.

What helps most: Do the final walkthrough with the crew lead before we pull away, while everything can still be adjusted for free.
